Who we are
As one of the largest producers of rough diamonds in the world, Rio Tinto Diamonds enjoys an important presence in the international diamond market. Rio Tinto Diamonds currently produces about 20 per cent of the world’s rough diamonds by volume through its 100 per cent control in the Argyle mine, 60 per cent of the Diavik mine and a 78 per cent interest in the Murowa mine. Rio Tinto Diamonds’ share of the production from these mines are sorted and prepared for sale at its sales and marketing headquarters in Antwerp, Belgium.
Rio Tinto Diamonds' sales and marketing group aims to differentiate itself by:
- providing the right customer with the right assortment of diamonds;
- tailoring our approach to serve each customer;
- creating long-term, mutually beneficial business relationships; and
- retaining the flexibility to respond to market opportunities.
We maintain an extensive industry intelligence network and a high level of customer and product support. We also believe in supporting consumer confidence in our diamonds and play an active role in addressing key industry issues around product integrity and sustainable development. We are a founding member of the Council for Responsible Jewellery Practices.
